Trumpet
Tyler Jones is a Denton-based trumpet player and educator, known best for his tenure as lead trumpet in the Grammy-nominated UNT One O’Clock Lab Band. He grew up in Keller, Texas, where he attended Central High School, and was twice selected for the TMEA All-State Bands; once as a member of the Philharmonic Orchestra, and his senior year as lead trumpet for the Jazz Ensemble I. He then attended UNT, where he studied under Rob Parton, Kyle Sherman, and Dr. Brian Walker, and in addition to his work with the One O’Clock, was also a member of the UNT Wind Ensemble and the Zebras Commercial Music Ensemble, with whom he won a Downbeat award in 2023. He has collaborated with a diverse span of artists, including Helen Sung, Michael League, Alison Miller, Billy Childs, Mike Williams, and Vincent Gardner. Tyler is now an active freelancer in the DFW area and is an assistant director for the Texas Jazz All-Stars.
